July 11, 2020 - Overview of my first sprint triathlon. I have done olympic and 70.3 triathlons but will all the cancellations I was able to actually complete a sprint triathlon
I was supposed to compete in Ironman 70.3 Muncie on 7/11 but it was canceled a week before the start. I was able to get registered for a sprint triathlon on the same day. It was my first sprint triathlon although I have done 2 olympic and 4 70.3 triathlons. I completed Indy Sprint Triathlon today. Extremely happy overall. Day started out bad by leaving my swim goggles and water bottles at home. Started to think maybe I should go back home. After some prayer, I was able to borrow some goggles from a very nice man and I chose to just use the water on the course. My swim was not as good as I wanted. My cap fell off and had to get help from one of kayakers to get it back on my head. The goggles I was using needed defogger because a couple of times I could not see anything. But after all that I did get out of the water with respectable time. I made up some time on the bike. After a couple of initial hills I was averaging well over 20mph. I finished the 10 mile bike in a little over 30 minutes. After pushing so hard on the bike I figured my run would suffer. I actually ran the 3.1 miles in 35 minutes. Which was a personal record for me even though I walked a couple of time. My goal was to complete the sprint in 1 hour 40 minutes. I thought after the horrible swim there was no way. With it all said and done I completed the triathlon in 1:36. Not bad for all the trials and tribulations of the day. Always persevere to the end and depend on God. God is so Awesome.
